What to Know Before Ordering Your Wedding Invitations

Wedding invitations are one of the first decisions that makes your wedding feel real. Here's what to have in place before you begin. What to know before ordering your invitations makes the process easier and the result exactly what you imagined.

  1. Know When to Order Your Wedding Invitations

Invitations need to be in the mail six to eight weeks before your wedding, ten to twelve weeks for a destination weddings with traveling guests. Working backwards from that date, and accounting for design and production time, means starting the conversation three to four months before your mail date at minimum. Letterpress takes longer and that time is precisely what you are investing in.

  1. Know Your Budget

Custom wedding stationery is an investment in expertise, materials and something made entirely for you. Here at Lolli Pop Letterpress there are two paths: The Custom for fully bespoke original design and The Curated for signature suites that you personalize. Knowing which direction fits your vision and your budget helps you find the right path. Whether it's with us or elsewhere.

  1. Know Your Guest Count

Invitations are priced per quantity so having an approximate number before you begin helps establish budget and timeline from the start. Remember your count will be the number of households not the number of guest attending. Always order a few extra for last minute guests, keepsakes and photos.

  1. Know Your Suite Contents

How many cards do you need and what goes on each one. A simple suite is one invitation and an envelope. A layered suite might include a details card, reply card set, rehearsal dinner card etc. This is also the moment to think about paper and print method as each method is priced differently due to the process and cost of materials. Each print method and paper also has a different end feel and look. Knowing what you are drawn to before reaching out will help you find the designer and printer that is right for your wedding.

  1. Know Your Vision

You don't need to know exactly what you want, that's what the design process is for, but knowing what you are drawn to starts with gathering it. Save invitations you love, color palettes, florals, venue details, really it could be any visual that feels like your day. Build a mood board on Pinterest, a folder on your phone or magazine clippings. The patterns that emerge tell us more than any description could.
